About the Challenge

AI for Urban Mobility
The AI for Urban Mobility initiative at IISc, supported by Ministry of Education, AIRAWAT and Bangalore Traffic Police, is using AI to ease traffic congestion, improve safety and enhance mobility planning. This hackathon will create the largest annotated traffic image dataset for India, contributing to reduced greenhouse gas emissions, better air quality.
Who Can Participate
- Undergraduate and postgraduate students from any college in India
- Multiple teams from the same institution are welcome
- Students enthusiastic about AI, sustainability and society
Challenge Format
Phase 1: Traffic Quest (9 May - 8 June)
- Annotate traffic images in a gamified race
- Compete on precision and speed
Phase 2: AI Face-off (21-22 June)
- Build AI models at IISc (top 20 teams)
- Present to expert panel

Eligibility Criteria
- Must be currently enrolled in an Indian college/university
- Teams of 1-4 members (including the leader) from the same institution
- Each participant can be part of only one team
- Top 20 teams from Phase 1 will be eligible to participate in Phase 2

Top participants in the AI model building round will have the opportunity to for internships at Indian Institute of Science (IISc), to gain invaluable experience in AI and urban mobility research.
Participation Certificates
All participants who complete sufficient and accurate number of labels and rounds will be given a participation certificate from IISc to recognize their contribution to the crowdsourced effort.

Phase 1 Complete
First phase of the hackathon completed. Top teams were invited to the final in-person round at IISc.
Face-off Round
Top 20 teams built AI models in-person at IISc using the collected annotated data.
Results Announced
The hackathon concluded and winners were awarded prizes at IISc Bangalore.
